Anyone have new updates. The link that Ashraf posted a while ago is dead, and I can't for the life of me remember the name of the place. What I do remember is that they were scheduled to be open about now...

OK all you smack talkers and wannabes. The kart place I was thinking about is RushHour karting. They are slated to open on December 6th. Here is a link to their site:

http://www.rushhourkarting.com/index.html

I've pinged them for a track map, membership rates, and track time costs, i.e.: if we want 1 hour of track time. They are also setting up leagues...

Any interest in trying to set up a club "track" event here?

- John

I would be interested in a league as long as long as it didn't meet too frequently. Garner is a hike for me.

Dragging up old threads again . . .

I checked out Rush Hour Karting with some buddies this weekend- big fun. We only had time to run one heat. The heats are 8 minutes and cost $20 for non-members, $17 for members. Members also get a bunch of other kickbacks and discounts, 12 minute runs on Mondays, $100 all-day rate, etc. My fastest lap was a 35.5, FTD was a 32.4. I'd definitely be up for spending an afternoon/evening there as a club event.

I just wish they'd find a way to offer some specials like VLK does. At VLK you can race for hours on like $30 IIRC.

This looks like an old thread, but I just got my membership, it was pretty interesting, I need to loose weight now. It's funny how in those places always have a "big guy" to intimidate the kids.

They've got new karts a couple of months ago. I think Ryan is always talking about this.

Side note:
I hear VIR is dying to get folks out to their track. $30 for a half-hour, $50-55 for an hour and you don't have to rent out the whole track to make it cost effective like when they first opened and Mark Underwood was doing that. Living in Durham, VIR is almost similar in terms of commute distance/time to Garner and there is no annual membership...

oh, come on, let me enjoy the moment,

Let's see:

Plantation valley kart track

1.-5/8-mile, 24-foot-wide, paved karting circuit
2.-open air track
3.-track is open from Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 am to dusk. Monday-Tuesday also by appointment and nights on major weekends
4.-karts are available to rent at $35 for a half-hour and $55 for a full hour
5.-kart racers must possess a VIR kart license which costs $5.00 for one time use and $25.00 for a season license
6.-karts are old and stiff

Rush hour karting

1.-have no idea about the length but is shorter
2.-indoor track
3.-open from Monday to Thursday 12 to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday 12 to 12, and Sunday 1 to 9 pm
4.-basic year membership $15, then $17 each 8 min heat, and some specials every now and then
5.-karts are new and very easy to stir

bottom line, go anywhere and have fun, you'll need to pay anyways

I've been there a few times--the new karts are pretty nice. I also go there because they rent cameras I can use for track/autocross. ($25 for the weekend.)

My best time is 31.4 in the old karts and 31.8 in the new. It matters tremendously if the tires/track are warm or not.

Maybe we should have a social there? I know it is a hike for some of you, but it's right down the road from me!

Pablo...I wasn't ragging on Rush Hour. I've probably spent a couple hundred bucks there by now. :)

I did not know about the "license fee" at VIR. They did not have that. I saw they are doing half-off at Plantation Valley this week during the stock car testing day ($10 admission) and thought that it would be a heck of a deal to go up for that. From what I recall, the VIR karts "feels" more like the track than Rush Hour, with the tight turns, sort of feels more like an autocross.

What is nice is that we actually have choices! It use to be that we were limited to the local amusement place off Garrett Rd in Durham (closed) or Adventure Landing in Raleigh. I remember Eric and I doing an hour and half or something rediculous like that stint there when they had some sort of special...it was freezing cold and we had winter jackets on. Now, we have Frankie's near Brier Creek. Fortner and I have probably spent a couple hundred there, too if we were to count up all those sessions.

It used to be we had to carpool and schlep over to Victory Lane in Charlotte. I have to say that those trips were a heck of a lot of fun and there are a lot of fond memories (two bachelor parties and a going away party, among others).

More club history:
We actually used to have the social in Garner at the Rock-Ola off exit 298 in Raleigh. That was a long haul for me from Clemmons, once a month. ;)

We have tended to keep the same location to keep things simple and location tended to help draw a crowd. Folks didn't have to check, they just knew to show up at X on the first Friday.

Most of us ended up in Durham/RTP, thus the current location.

So, are you offering to provide dinner at your place, Ryan? ;)

Could certainly have a karting party and then dinner at my place. I'd love to see a bunch of RX-7s/miatae parked outside!

Maybe I fire up the grill and have a BYO meat/potluck? My house has a decent deck if the weather is nice...

Rush hour is good fun. Passing is tough--really easy to put someone in the wall. Not sure I want to be side-by-side with Ashraf when he gets the gleam in his eye...

They have some pretty good specials. They sell 5 for 3 races on Tuesdays--you can use the races anytime. I have just called them on Tuesday, bought the races with a credit card over the phone and then used the races whenever.

I'm a fan of Rush Hour- they have waht they call Sprint sessions, you get a 5 minute warm-up, then an X minute heat, then a race, for a fixed price.

And they have a sports bar there.

They have helped Meg and I out a lot- I would enjoy a club event there!
