Well, it finally happened, This morning the snow had melted enough for me to take the '7 to work. On my way down I40 I see some kind of road debris flip up in front of my car. Looking in the rear view mirror, I realize that the "debris" was my right-side headlight cover. Too much traffic to go back and try and get it, although it may have actually landed on the median shoulder so I'll run back there later today and try and find it.

This is the cover that I repaired/reinforced with steel angle brackets and epoxy when I initially got the car. From inspection it looks like the front, un-reinforced attachment brackets cracked and then tore the back ones out.

I'm going to keep the stock pop-up lights (I like them) but does anyone (Ashraf?) know of a good replacement source? Or is it just going to be better making a mold and start playing with fiberglass?

Thanks,

-b

Looked around at MazdaSpeed and with my account it looks like they will be around $63/ea plus shipping. I'll probably just order two, since the left side is probably marginal at this point.

Would someone with a parts fiche verify that they are part number FDY2-51-SH(R) and FDY2-51-SH2(L)? It looks like they are listed under the "Body Electronics: Headlamp Retractor" section. Just want to verify before hitting the "order" button.

Anyone else need some FD or FC parts while I'm there?

Give me a parts list - I'm ordering this weekend.

BTW, if you are heading east on I-40 right after the merge with Durham Freeway, you can look to the left about 20-30 yards after the concrete barrier begins and there is my headlight cover laying there against the wall. I wasn't about to go fetch it during rush hour, but I may try and pick it up this weekend.

Apparently the part I want isn't on the fiche. No big deal; I can most likely find one (or more) when I next hit the scrapyards.

look at the very beginning of the fiche for the accessories (which the aero kit was). It's not in the regular body section.
